Besides their regular safeties some Lugers
bore complementary safeties. During the 1930's, the pistol was allocated to police forces
which were not very aware of the functionning of this handgun. Many incidents relating to
their misuse conducted the authorities to ask for additional safeties. One of them, rather
often encountered, is the Schiwy safety, which immobilizes the sear when the slide is out
of the frame (pictured bellow left). Another, by far more scarce, is the Walther safety,
intended to block the trigger when the magazine is removed. At this time some users were
not conscious that a cartridge could remained chambered and fired even if the magazine was
not present in the butt. The Walther safety was considered as not very efficient and
therefore rendered inoperative on all the pistols equipped with. To get more information,
