The Colt 1911 was adopted by the U.S. Army
after a long series of tests initiated in 1907. The Colt Government remained basically the
same until now, even if improved through new steel formula and safety. It greatly
represents the prototype of a handgun one can rely on. Initially chambered for the
regulation .45 ACP (11.43 mm) cartridge, it is now available in all kinds of classical
calibers. The history of its evolution (technical , commercial, markings, contracts, ...)
is particularly well detailed in our book .
