The Colt "Woodsman" was the first
incursion of the firm in the .22 caliber world during the 1915's. Initially devoted to
sport or recreational shooting (small game hunting, plinking, ...) it was eventually
declined in a great variety of sub-models, among which several, equipped with heavy
barrels, specific sights or ergonomic grips, were clearly intended to competition. The
commercial challenger was then the German Walther firm. All models confused, the
"Wodsman" remained in production until the 1977's. The first models are now
highly appreciate and sought after by collectors. The internal mechanism, based on a John
Browning's patent is particularly well explained in our book.
